Jessica Machado is an award-winning author, editor and professor. She is currently a senior editor at NBC News, running the solutions vertical Storytellers, and an adjunct professor at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Previously, she was a staff editor at Vox, The Daily Dot and Rolling Stone. Her work has appeared in/on The Washington Post, BuzzFeed, Elle, and The Cut, among others.

Born and raised on O‘ahu and Kanaka Maoli, she holds BAs in journalism and sociology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from Portland State University. In 2024, she won a Honolulu Book Award for her memoir, Local (Little A). She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
